How System USA Helps California Greenhouses Thrive
Many greenhouse operators face a constant balancing act of maintaining optimal growing conditions while also trying to keep their utility costs in check.
That’s where System USA, Inc. steps in. As a long-time provider of greenhouse solutions, System USA began working with the Agriculture Energy Savings Action Plan (AESAP) back in 2022 to help indoor agriculture customers adopt energy-efficient technologies at a lower cost using AESAP rebates. Through their partnership with AESAP, System USA makes it easier for growers to invest in energy-saving technologies, reducing energy consumption and improving their bottom line.

A legacy of greenhouse innovation
Founded in 1981 by Peter Fryn, System USA, Inc. has spent over four decades providing a variety of greenhouse technologies to optimize indoor growing. Now led by Chief Operating Officer David Fryn and Sales Program Manager Evan Schivo, the company specializes in delivering complete greenhouse packages using high-quality materials sourced primarily from Europe.
Customers choose System USA not just for their quality products, but also for the way they prioritize real, long-term partnerships. Their team ensures that each installation is done right, staying on-site to oversee every detail and making recommendations that work best for their customers. “We’ll never recommend something that doesn’t make sense for a grower, “shared Evan Schivo, “We’re not trying to sell stuff. We’re trying to solve problems—and we stick around to make sure the job is done right.”
System USA provides comprehensive solutions to help greenhouse growers reduce their energy usage and save on utility bills. They currently offer three technology solutions eligible for AESAP rebates:

A pattern of success for System USA

Shade cloth has become one of the most popular upgrades for greenhouse operators. Since working with AESAP, System USA has installed shade cloth at just under 100 facilities within PG&E territory. Their team sews each shade cloth system in-house to ensure a perfect fit and long-term durability.
AESAP is a great program to work with. They help us get projects moving forward that otherwise might not happen.
To celebrate the work they’ve done for greenhouse growers throughout California, the AESAP team joined System USA at their facility in Watsonville to present them with a check for $1,419,765.98, representing the total rebate dollars paid for their energy efficiency projects completed for PG&E customers in last quarter of 2024. This number contributes to the total of 11.2 million dollars “AESAP is a great program to work with. They help us get projects moving forward that otherwise might not happen,” Schivo remarked during the check presentation.
The success of their partnership with AESAP isn’t the only thing that System USA is proud of. When speaking on the impact of the shade cloth projects, David Fryn shared, “Many customers would have gone out of business because they can’t afford their gas bills. If they don’t have the shade cloth in there, they couldn’t afford to heat their operations in the winter. Shade cloth has been the biggest saver – they save 50% of the gas usage in the facility.”

AESAP helps contractors sell more projects
When asked if other contractors in the agriculture space should work with the AESAP team, Fryn said “Definitely do it. Working with AESAP makes it easier to sell your products, especially when they’re covered by a rebate.”
System USA continues to work with AESAP to offer affordable and efficient solutions for greenhouse growers throughout PG&E territory. In addition to greenhouse rebates, AESAP offers a variety of rebates for other agriculture business types throughout PG&E territory in California.
